Located on Clingman’s Peak, one of the highest FM transmitter sites east of the Mississippi, Billy Graham Evangelical Association’s WMIT is a grandfathered superpower FM station. The Main FM antenna is a 4-bay COGWHEEL® FM antenna top mounted on the tallest tower pictured. WMIT operates with an effective radiated power of 36 kW at a height above average terrain of 3,091-feet and covers a large area. Its signal can be heard in the Tri-Cities of Tennessee (where it provides city-grade coverage), Greenville/Spartanburg, Charlotte and its hometown of Asheville. The 6-bay, half wavelength spaced ROTOTILLER® pictured on the tower to the left is WMIT’s auxiliary FM antenna. Photo courtesy of Doc Searls.
